Starfire Strong Update August 28, 2020
We are extremely thankful to be completing another week here at SA, and our kids continue to do a tremendous job at school! While we are fortunate to continue to have no positive cases at South Adams, we do have students who are required to learn at home for 10-14 days due to being a close contact and/or per doctor’s recommendations.
It is important that we all do everything we can to combat the spread of Covid-19. We understand some things are beyond our control, but we just want to stress the importance of being diligent about what we are doing in the evenings and on weekends outside of school hours. Please remind your children to practice social distancing, good hand hygiene, and wear masks when appropriate, even when they are not at school. These practices will hopefully ensure we can stay in school at full capacity and limit exposure and spread of Covid-19. We understand that this can be challenging, but the extra caution at this time will be super beneficial to everyone. It is going to take all of us to keep our schools up and running. Our mission is to keep our kids healthy and at school every day, so please help us do so by following the updated guidance we have attached below.
We believe school is a safe place for our kids with the measures we are implementing. We appreciate all of the extra efforts our school staff and Starfire families are doing to ensure this safety. We know that together we will continue to do our best and to keep our students, staff and community safe.
We are also grateful to have the guidance from our county and state health departments to keep us up-to-date on the latest situational scenarios that allow us to make decisions about our kids and staff members. Thanks to all of you for your support and cooperation. Please read the information below.
Important information from the School Nurses
- Covid-19 symptom update: They have removed congestion and runny nose; however, there are still 7 other symptoms that could indicate a Covid-19 infection if they are of new onset. If symptoms do not have an alternate explanation, PLEASE keep student at home and call your physician’s office for further guidance. Please refer to the updated “Covid-19 Screening for Parents” on our website. At this link: https://www.southadams.k12.in.us/cms/lib/IN02201078/Centricity/Domain/8/COVID19ScreeningforParents.pdf
- Close Contact, Isolation, and Quarantine definitions update: Refer to the “Covid-19 When a student, faculty, or staff member can return to school” fact sheet and table at this link: https://www.southadams.k12.in.us/cms/lib/IN02201078/Centricity/Domain/8/COVID19GuidanceWhentoReturn.pdf
- Under the newest guidance, if someone is symptomatic in your household and gets tested for Covid-19, ALL family members and/or people living in that home, MUST quarantine until negative test results. (*This is school-related guidance, which means this applies to students and staff members.) For example, if any student with symptoms is tested, all of their siblings who attend South Adams must stay home and quarantine until negative test results. Please notify the school if your child is being tested.
