Answer
How will students connect for virtual classroom instructions?
Students will find the Google Meet link posted in Canvas. Directions to join are located here: Joining Google Meet
What if the student is unable to join the virtual instruction at the scheduled time?
If your student is unable to join, please call the school and report this immediately (High School 589-3131 ext. 434, Elementary/Middle School 589-3131 ext. 494). Students will not be counted absent if they complete the assignments posted within Canvas as they would on an asynchronous eLearning day. Teachers will also work with families to ensure students have all they missed from Google meetings.
How will student attendance be taken?
Students will turn on their device camera at the beginning of class to confirm their presence.
Will students be required to keep the camera on during class time?
Student cameras will be utilized at the discretion of the teacher.
When should students join the Google Meet session?
Students should join the Google Meet session 3-5 minutes before the scheduled classroom time. Joining too early will cause the session to timeout. If this happens, or if the student accidentally drops out of the session, they should rejoin again by clicking on the link in Canvas.
What if the teacher is not present when the student attempts to join the session?
The student will see a message that the meeting has not started. The student should wait for the teacher to join and approve the student to be in the session. Students will not be in a virtual meeting unsupervised - the teacher will always be present.
What if the student does not have a stable internet connection or no internet?
Due to the inability of some students to log in from outside of school for synchronous learning, our students that do not have or utilize technology at home will be counted present based on their assignment completion when they return in the same manner and with the same requirements as asynchronous eLearning.
What if the student is unable to connect while trying to join the Google Meet session?
Students should contact tech support:
Elementary - Kenny Amstutz
260/589-3131 ext. 494
Middle & High - Kent Arnold
260/589-3133 ext. 434
If the student is still unable to connect after receiving technical assistance, the technology department will relay to the teacher the student attempted to join.
What about elementary devices and chargers?
Student iPads and chargers will be sent home daily with elementary students starting at Thanksgiving Break and through Spring Break. If the weather forecast looks like we’re going to have a weather-related cancellation outside of those dates, the devices will go home with students. If devices were not sent home prior to an inclement weather day, we will not implement a synchronous learning day and the day will be asynchronous or made up.
Will the live instruction be recorded and available within Canvas?
Some teachers may find it helpful to record their virtual instruction for students who are unable to log on for live instruction. However, not all teachers may record their sessions. Student assignments will be posted on the teacher Canvas page.
