The South Adams A Cappella Choir is an auditioned ensemble. Mixing both male and female singers, this ensemble performs most often compared to other South Adams ensembles, displaying a level of choral excellence and professionalism wherever they perform.
Each member of the South Adams A Cappella Choir is required to attend each concert, including the Fall Concert, Christmas Concert, South Adams Choral Festival, Spring Concert and the Pops Concert. Additional required performances include (but are not limited to) the Ball State Choral Invitational, Ball State Men's Choir Side by Side Workshop, Sounds of the Seasons at Sweetwater in Fort Wayne, Veteran's Day Program, National Anthem at various locations, ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest, State ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest, Sacred Concerts in various community worship facilities, and Graduation.
Students may gain solo performance experience by participating in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest, an adjudicated performance through the Indiana State School Music Association. ICDA All State Choir, a prestigious honor, also provides another performance opportunity for students who successfully audition.
Repertoire includes both sacred and secular texts, various languages, styles and genres, all of which provide a well-rounded choral education.
Additional to performance experience, students will learn proper singing technique through a state standards-based curriculum. Students will also be trained in sight-singing and music theory at their own level; skills that are necessary to become a well-rounded musician.
