Members of the 7/8th Grade Choir will begin the year with a voice range test and be placed according to their vocal range and height. Attendance is required at each concert, including the Fall Concert, Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, and Pops Concert. Students may gain additional performance experience by participating in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest, an adjudicated performance through the Indiana State School Music Association. Other performance opportunities (by audition) include the Circle the State with Song Honor Choir (performance in Wabash, Indiana) and the IMEA All State Middle School Honor Choir, which includes students from all over Indiana and performs at the prestigious Fort Wayne Embassy, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. South Adams has been successful in placing students in both of these performance ensembles. More information will be available at the start of the school year.
Additional to performance experience, students will learn proper singing technique through a state standards-based curriculum. Students will also be trained in sight-singing and music theory, skills that are necessary to become a well-rounded musician. By the end of the school year, students will accomplish singing in four (or more) parts.
