• Stafire Families,

Following advice from Dr. Ainsworth and after careful deliberation, the South Adams Administration has made the difficult decision, that following Thanksgiving break, we will suspend in-person learning through Wednesday, December 2nd. Classes will resume in person on Thursday, December 3rd

Monday, November 30th will be an additional day off for students- NO eLearning

Tuesday and Wednesday (December 1st and 2nd) will be eLearning days. Students will log onto Canvas on Tuesday and Wednesday just like a regular weather related eLearning day. (Unless teachers provide other information to students on Tuesday, November 24th)

This decision was based not only on the current numbers of positive cases in Adams County, but also based on the nature of the spread of Covid-19. If students and staff members gather in small or larger groups for Thanksgiving and are exposed to the virus, they will most likely start exhibiting symptoms late that weekend/early the following week. Studies have shown that the virus is not spreading at school. We are trying extremely hard to keep it that way.

This measure of extending break is to avoid sending a large number of students and/or staff home to quarantine if they develop symptoms, or are identified as close contacts in the beginning of the week. Dr. Ainsworth has advised that the additional 3 days at home will allow time for students and staff to identify if they have symptoms of Covid-19 or are a close contact from a family gathering. The South Adams Admin Team is hopeful that this short time away from school will help to prevent a longer time away between now and Christmas Break.

We realize that this may cause childcare related hardship for some families.  We have reached out to the Boys and Girls Club and we are thankful that they are willing to help our families during this time. The Boys & Girls Club plans to be open for assistance.  Feel free to contact Whitney Ellinger at 260-589-8365 for more information.

We are extremely thankful for every day we continue to be learning in person and appreciate all that our Starfire families are doing to assist us to do so. Combating this virus and the situations that it creates takes all of us working together. Thank you so much for your continued support and understanding.

We hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving break and look forward to seeing staff and students in the building on Thursday, December 3rd.
